Being a strong and independent woman is crucial to survive in this male-dominated world. If we want to empower women, we need to start with the girls!
In our society, most girls are raised to believe that they are less capable than their male counterparts, and this hurts their self-esteem and may drive them away from their dreams. Young girls need to be supported from an early age, and we must give them the tools and resources they need to unlock their potential, pursue their dreams, and live their lives to the fullest.
I want to go over a few ways we can help a developing girl to be the woman she wants to be, so let’s start.
Empower young girls by emphasizing character over appearance
Don’t emphasize looks all the time. Instead, teach her the value of having strong morals. It may be instantly gratifying to be called beautiful or pretty, but it will lead a young girl to believe that her beauty is her biggest asset. Instead, comment on her courage, determination, and her creativity! This can empower young girls.
Empower young girls by validating their perspectives
Encourage girls to voice their opinions from a young age, and use their input in decision-making about important matters. This helps with self-confidence. They’ll know from a young age that their voice matters. this will also empower young girls.
Empower young girls by sharing women’s achievements
Talk to her about positive role models and other successful women. Encourage her to read about their struggles and life stories. These role models can inspire and motivate girls to believe in their abilities and strive for their goals. Sisterhood Agenda has many resources to help empower young girls in the Shop.
Empower young girls by expanding their minds beyond stereotypes
Encourage young girls to challenge and break free from gender stereotypes. Teach them that their worth and abilities are not determined by societal expectations. Help them find out their passion, and support them to pursue it. Let them know:
