Burnout With Work? Here Are Ways To Avoid it

Burn out… what exactly is it?

You spent the entire day at work being the superwoman that you are and you’ve accomplished so much. You regularly skip lunch or have working lunches.

Then, a last-minute work crisis occurs, causing you to have to work a few hours overtime.

When you finally get home, you’re too exhausted to interact with your partner or with your kids and you can’t even muster the strength to cook dinner.

So, you order pizza instead.  Afterward, you still have to do laundry and other daily tasks that need to be done before bed.

So, you roll on your bed totally exhausted and when you wake up, you do it all over again.

One thing’s for sure:  women are masters of multi-tasking.  However, even Wonder Woman herself needs a break.

But how do you do that if your presence is demanded all the time?

How do you maintain a work-life balance? This doesn’t only apply to career moms but to stay-at-home moms, as well.

1. Meditation

Meditation has lots of benefits for our entire well-being. You will become calmer, sharper and more patient.

According to a Harvard study, it was found that meditation increases the amount of grey matter in the brain.

Which means:   there’s a reduction in stress and that doing meditation for 8 weeks straight is a way for a better brain.

Specifically, meditation helps with memory, sense of self, empathy, and stress.

There are several apps for beginners such as Headspace and Insight Timer.  You can use the free feature, which showcases different meditations from different gurus.

Meditation is like a vacation for your brain, an escape.

2. Apply the 80/20 principle

The 80/20 principle or the Pareto principle can be described as working smart instead of working hard. Doing more by doing less.

It states that, for many events, roughly 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.

The 80/20 principle can be applied to a lot of things, most especially at work.

For example, 80% of your tasks only come from 20% of your output.

There’s a book that you can buy online if you want to know further about the 80/20 principle.

You don’t have to work 70 hours a week if you can achieve the outcomes in 30 or 40 hours.

Instead of working long hours, why not learn how to use your time wisely? Learn to get more done with less time.

3. Delegate when you can

Don’t be hesitant to delegate tasks if you have too much on your plate. You can also learn about automation.  It makes life so much easier.

If you have a business or you ‘are part of a corporate organization, there will always be a part of your business that can be automated. It could be your finances, your customer support, even your emails, and social media marketing.

4. Using productivity tools = fewer chances of burn out

Streamline your daily process with online productivity tools.

Online software apps such as Slack and Trello allows you to plan your tasks and delegate tasks to your teammates, plus it provides easy communication.

There’s more!  You can also boost productivity by lessening team meetings or the need for a 20-minute call to explain something.

5. Prep your meals in advance

A recent study shows that an average person spends 32,098 hours eating and drinking in their lifetime. That didn’t include cooking.

Another study proved that average American daydreams about food four times a day, totaling up to about 40 minutes daily.

Food can take a significant amount of time from our lives. However, if we prep them in advance we won’t be spending a lot of time thinking about what to eat, and you don’t have to waste time on ‘emergency’ shopping trips if everything is planned.

When you create a meal plan for the entire week, it saves precious time and money.

You already know what ingredients to purchase and you no longer have to cook every day. You just heat it and eat it.

If you really don’t have time to cook or you just don’t want to cook, you can order for a meal delivery service.

6. Apply the Pomodoro technique

The Pomodoro technique is a system where you divide large tasks or series of tasks into short timed intervals, spaced out by short breaks.

This trains your brain to focus on short periods while working on a portion of a huge task.

This helps you stay on top of deadlines this also improves your focus and concentration.

You get to take frequent breaks that reinforce your motivation and creativity.

A person is more susceptible to burn out if they see huge tasks in front of them, primarily because it adds to the anxiety of it all. Among all of these tips, this is one of the most effective methods.

7. Don’t forget to take breaks

During a busy day whether you’re working in an office or a stay at home mom, it won’t come as a surprise if you forget to take breaks or to even eat lunch.

It is important to know that taking a few moments of rest each day is crucial in preventing exhaustion.

8. Stay physically fit by exercising

Exercise is essential for your mental health and overall health. You can squeeze in a 20-minute workout in your hectic schedule.

Do this before you take a shower or take a brisk walk during your lunch break if you’re working in an office. Make it a daily routine to exercise, it could be squats, brisk walking or a HIIT exercise that perks you up within minutes.
