Episode 57 of All Power to the Developing features Sisterhood Agenda Founder and President, Angela D. Coleman. More than a focus on physical dwellings, Sisterhood Agenda focuses on community development. Housing, she says, “taps into insecurities about what people believe they have worked for and what they feel like belongs to them.”
Too often, NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) mentalities go above and beyond trying to preserve a neighborhood by illegally suppressing the fair housing rights of affordable housing developers and mixed-income residents. The result is a disproportionately negative impact on women and children, decreasing their safety and well-being. PARKS Holistic Housing can help. Angela explains:
“It’s a lack mentality, a poverty mentality or an impoverished mindset that there’s not enough to go around for everybody. So I’m holding onto mine, and I don’t want anybody else to get or experience the quality of life like how I am experiencing a quality of life. And I say there’s no reason to do that. Mother Nature is abundant. Resources are abundant. And we don’t lose when everybody experiences a quality life. That’s part of creating community.”
