We’re not just going to list the benefits of honey for beauty and vanity but we are also including information for its use with chronic skin illnesses.

Disclaimer:  we are not letting you immerse yourself and try anything without a warning.

As they say, what may be good for others may not be good for you. Before trying anything at home, you should first consult your doctor and discuss any allergies you might have.

As with most skin products, try a patch test first and make sure that you are using organic, unpasteurized honey such as manuka honey.

Benefits of honey for skin

It is a natural antibiotic.  That’s why it’s also good for people with colds to take orally. Topically, it has microbial properties that can heal wounds and scars as well as fungal and skin infections.

In addition to that, it has anti-inflammatory properties that can be used by people who have acne, eczema, and psoriasis (study).

In addition, it has wonderful anti-aging properties, which can help explain why Queen Cleopatra used it in the past.

Honey was considered a fountain of youth.

It has been proven that honey lessens the appearance of wrinkles, keeps the skin plump, and prevents any skin infections that can cause premature aging.

1. Honey is great for inflammation

If you have acne, eczema, or psoriasis, you may use it as a spot treatment or as a face mask that you can leave for 20 minutes then rinse with warm water.

Reminder:  you should do a patch test first to make sure you are not allergic. If you’re allergic to pollen, bee stings, or celery, this may increase the chance that you are allergic to honey.

You should also note that for this to work correctly, you should use unpasteurized honey because it is the “good and healthy bacteria” that helps your immune system fight the inflammation caused by acne and eczema.

It can also be used for sunburn to help soothe the damaged skin tissues. You may mix it with equal parts of aloe vera gel.

2. For a brighter, more moisturized skin

Honey is a gentle exfoliator that scrapes off dead skin cells that causes your skin to look dull and dry, revealing brighter new skin.

You can mix 2 teaspoons of honey with one teaspoon of baking soda and gently massage your skin in a circular motion before rinsing.

If you have acne scars that won’t go away, you may apply it as a spot treatment because it helps repair damaged skin.

Note that it works best for new scars not older than 3 months. Put honey on the scarring area for two minutes then rinse. You may do this daily or every other day until it lightens.

Including honey in your beauty regimen will also leave your skin supple as it addresses dry skin and moisturizes it deep within.

3. Clean your pores with a DIY mask

Did you know that you can use honey to get rid of your blackhead, whiteheads, and all that gunk and sebum in your pores?

Its antioxidants and antibacterial properties work their way into your pores and remove all the acne-causing bacteria, leaving you with clearer skin and tighter pores.

4. Explore its anti-aging effects

Honey decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by controlling them with powerful antioxidants. You don’t need botox or an expensive cream! Apply it as a mask for 20 minutes and you’re good to go. It also improves your skin’s elasticity, resulting in a youthful glow.

Other benefits you might not know of

There are certain studies that say honey slows down the growth of cancer cells and another study indicating honey’s antiproliferative, anticancer, and antimetastatic effects.  Who knew that honey could be an effective anti-cancer treatment?

Side effects of honey you should know about

Make sure to remove all honey residue in your skin before going to bed, its thick consistency may trap dirt and will cause skin problems to worsen. It is not meant to stay on your skin for more than 20 minutes.

If you are allergic to pollen, bees, bee sting you should not try this at home.

If you don’t have known allergies you should first go for a skin allergy test, or do a patch test before applying it all over your skin or body.

Only use unpasteurized honey or manuka honey, pasteurization kills all the healthy bacteria that have anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects. Make sure your honey is pure with no sugar additives.
