Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty is a Barbadian singer, businesswoman, fashion designer, actress, and philanthropist. Quite frankly, she is proving to be an unstoppable sister in business.

Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty is an empowering fashion brand for women.  What a smart move by Rihanna to team up with Amazon; you can watch Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty fashion show here:If we can sum up Rihanna’s Savage X fashion show in one word, it would be “inclusivity.”

“It’s very important that the casting tells the narrative of what the brand stands for.  And what we stand for mainly is inclusivity.  That’s what I stand for with everything I create.”  Rihanna

Dancing in lingerie-I can get with that!  The description of the fashion show:

The SAVAGE X FENTY SHOW is a shoppable visual event, giving us a look into Rihanna’s creative process for her latest lingerie collection. Modeled by incredible, diverse talent; celebrating all genders and sizes; and featuring performances by the hottest music artists, nowhere else will you feel this kind of empowerment.

Like Rihanna’s beauty line, Fenty Beauty, that also celebrates diversity and inclusion, Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty fashion show highlights a unique type of empowerment that Sisterhood Agenda has been promoting for over 25 years; empowerment that elevates the marginalized status of the “other.”

The “other” is defined as a girl or woman outside of the mainstream who is different from the more conventional and traditional forms of beauty, taught to hate herself and her differences, the subject of simultaneous ridicule and fascination.  Black girls, brown girls, big girls know what we mean.  Inclusivity movements include:

  • Multicultural beauty
  • Natural hair
  • Body positivity
  • LGBTQ
  • Differently-abled bodies

Conquering other-ism in the fashion and beauty industry is no easy feat. Go Rihanna!  It’s about embracing self-definition and self-acceptance, m0st of all.  Confidence and self-love abound in being Savage.

Can’t we all be beautiful?  Yes, with her new lingerie line and fashion show, Rihanna shows us that diversity is beautiful… and sexy, too.

Being unique is not celebrated enough and here we see it on display.  With her Savage X brand, as with her previous creations, Rihanna was determined to do something different that had never been seen before.  Importantly, it’s not all in your face, obvious, calculated conjecture.   It just is.

I like the backstory as much as the visual spectacle of the fashion show event.  We get a glimpse of the body image issues that often plague our gender.  We learn about Rihanna’s process in creating the Savage X brand and coordinating the details of the show itself, from the lingerie design to the dance routines in the show.

“I am literally seeing their bodies as pieces of art.”  Rihanna

Rihanna gets it.  Our seeming contradictions of femininity and womanhood:  our strength and vulnerability, our introverted extroverted-ness, our precise chaos, the storm within the calm.  The excitement of the cast and Rihanna herself are contagious.  It’s a wonderful experience!  I am sure that you will enjoy this fabulous creation, as well.
