Tems helping girls feel seen with her Leading Vibe Initiative is a big deal-she’s mobilizing the sisterhood.
From her hometown of Lagos, Nigeria and beyond, singer/songwriter/social entrepreneur Tems (full name: Temilade Openiyi) is mobilizing the sisterhood, targeting women ages 18-35 years old with her mentoring program, Leading Vibe Initiative.
Tem’s Leading Vibe Initiative is showing by example and teaching young people to be themselves in an industry that can objectify girls and damage their self-esteem.
In addition to sexual and economic exploitation, many talented women are not given the opportunities to shine like they deserve. Tems recalls:
“I didn’t feel safe, and I didn’t feel seen, and I didn’t feel supported for a very long time.”
Tems is a mostly self-taught creative. She has been writing songs since she was a young girl and producing her own music. It was difficult for her to break into the music industry and rise to her current position: a Grammy-winning, Billboard chart-climbing superstar collaborator. Now, she’s breaking barriers, not just for herself, but for others, too:
“There are women everywhere who just need to feel seen. All they need is that platform, all they need is that chance, and I really believe it’s going to change the shape of the music industry for sure.”
Nigerian singer Tems’ Leading Vibe Initiative is part of Sisterhood Agenda’s global sisterhood.
