A housing crisis can harm us more than you think. Loneliness can be the result of housing that doesn’t deliver what residents need most.
When we think of a housing crisis, we tend to think in terms of physical dwellings and homes. However, let’s broaden our perspectives.
The housing crisis leads to loneliness.
Can housing make you lonely? Just as housing can contribute to your wellness, housing can also contribute to your loneliness. Just ask Millennials and Gen Z.
It is largely believed that Millennials and Gen Z are the loneliest generations.
The housing crisis affects your mood, both good and bad.
What is unusual is the idea that housing contributes to this dismay emotional state. The idea that housing affects your mood, mental health, and emotional well-being is one that Sisterhood Agenda embraces with its PARKS Holistic Housing Project.
Holistic housing means that we think beyond the person living in the space; Sisterhood Agenda considers the environment, as well as the idea of promoting a supportive community environment.
Green spaces, bonding in friendship, affordability… these are just some of the aspects of Sisterhood Agenda’s PARKS Holistic Housing.
Craving connection and personal interaction with a cost-consciousness outlook and innovative ways to generate personal income, new housing projects have let many of us down, especially Millennials, Gen X, Y, and Z. As a result our children suffer. Many of them have given up trying to find quality homes that foster connection and fall within their budget range.
A housing crisis can be overwhelming.
A housing crisis can make you feel isolated and alone. Hopelessness can result from feeling an utter lack of control, lack of input, and lack of choices regarding where and how you live.
We hope that more communities will be built holistically, with a whole-person approach that keeps findings like these in mind. Community Housing Development Organizations like Sisterhood Agenda can make a positive difference.
Together, we can and should do better.
Better for the environment with eco-conservation. Better for residents with smart use of spaces. Better for sustainability so that we can all thrive. Together.
