When we think about self-care, we often think about taking a break from work or going on vacation. What if I told you self-care can be more than that?
Self-care is the art of taking care of yourself to restore or boost your well-being.
It’s impotant to incorporate self-care into your daily life in order for you to be truly happy. There are many ways you can incorporate self-care into your life. Read more about incorporating self-care into your daily life with The Art of Chilling Out for Women by Sisterhood Agenda Founder and President Angela D. Coleman.
Below, I will show you how to define self-care for yourself, do it every day, and extend self-care beyond yourself.
Define self-care for yourself.
The first step to finding the best self-care schedule is to see what you want your self-care to be.
Your self-care doesn’t have to be expensive, such as booking a spa day or an exotic vacation. Don’t get me wrong, you can most definitely do that if you want. My main point is that self-care can be simple with a little effort, like taking a nice bath, going for a walk, or taking a digital detox break.
Do your self-care activity every day.
Self-care is not selfish. The main form of self-care that I find attainable to do on a daily basis is to spend time on hobbies. I will often think about hobbies I wish I could do more often and try to incorporate them within my work schedule.
For example, if I want to spend more time reading books, I will look at what I have to do for work this week. I will then set times for when I can cook dinner, shower, eat, and read a few chapters before bed.
Extend self-care beyond yourself.
Self-care can be social, emotional, and physical. Self-care can also include being around other people, especially if this is something that helps you and lifts your spirits.
If you feel a bit lonely and isolated when you consistently come home from work and do nothing at home, you might want to spend more time with others. You could ask co-workers if they want to go out for drinks or come over to your house to eat a meal. Emotional self-care can involve going to therapy or talking with someone you trust.
Do something good for yourself.
In conclusion, self-care can be anything as long as it makes you happy and fulfilled. Also, self-love is doing things for your well-being and activites that better yourself.
