What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a splendid day of love, unity, and compassion. It is a day where charitable institutions around the world, as well as nonprofits, come together to reach one goal:  to help those in need.

It is considered the biggest giving day of the year.

It is not only limited to giving tangible gifts but also includes acts of kindness, as well.

You can advocate for an issue you’re deeply passionate about or share a skill that would help also help others. Any kind of kindness counts in #GivingTuesday. Donate what you can at any time.

A small act of kindness will make a huge impact on this day. It takes place on December 1, 2020, Tuesday, approximately one week after Thanksgiving.

While Thanksgiving is a special day where we appreciate and recognize what we are thankful for in this life, the next week, you can make your thanks-giving all the more worthwhile by sharing your blessings.

When and how did #GivingTuesday start?

The charitable movement “Giving Tuesday” was founded eight years ago in the year 2012 to encourage people to do good deeds.

Founded by New York’s 92nd Street Y in collaboration with the United Nations Foundation, GivingTuesday started their own organization led by GivingTuesday co-founder, Asha Curran, as its CEO in July 2019.

Since then it has exponentially grown into a global movement inspiring countless people to donate, help spread the word, cooperate, and honor generosity.

This now-massive movement had inspired charitable institutions around the world resulting in tremendous donations, tireless donation drives, volunteer hours.

#GivingTuesday became a catalyst for projects and activities that make a difference in communities.  It is the spirit of giving that is most important.
