When people are depressed and at their lowest point, they are often bombarded with negative thoughts. The only thing that will pull them up from a downward spiral is to practice self-love.
So how do you practice self-love? We’ve gathered the most simple ways to get you started.
Stop comparing yourself to others
When you compare yourself to others, you are not practicing self-love.
First of all, it is highly detrimental to your self-confidence. For example, you’re in casting audition and you see other models. Then you started comparing yourself, telling yourself that they’re prettier, taller, etc.,
And you start to think that the casting judges will choose them over you. NOW STOP. DON’T.
Don’t do that to yourself. When you compare yourself to others, you focus on your greatest flaws and compare yourself to someone you don’t know. You’re doomed to fail before you even had a chance to get started.
And the same goes for social media. People post their best moments, the places they go to, their success. You can’t compare their success to yours. You never know how they feel or what they’re really going through.
Instead, spend your time and strength to nourish and create your own path.
Surround yourself with people who lift you up
Does your inner circle inspire you? Does your family support you and want what’s best for you?
Just because you’ve been friends for a long time, doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of time with a person, especially when that person does not make you feel good.
Same goes with family-just because they are your family it doesn’t mean you have to take in everything they’re saying.
Let’s face it, some friends and families are toxic. Yes, we love them but sometimes they’re not good for our soul and our mental well-being.
Choose who you spend your time with, practicing self-love means you don’t have to endure an uncomfortable or uneasy situation. Be with people who lift you up, inspire you, support you, and want the best for you.
Practice self-love by creating healthy habits
This is the part where you concretely show self-love, by taking care of yourself. Watching what you eat and what you do to your body.
You don’t have to go on a diet to lose weight. If you feel deprived, watch what you eat. Eat clean and the rest will follow. Treat your body as a divine vessel.
Do your self-care tasks not because you need to “get it done” but because you care about yourself.
If you don’t feel like doing a full, hardcore workout, maybe you can go for a walk during sunset. Create and practice habits that are good for your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

You don’t need to admire everything about yourself to practice self-love; all you need is acceptance.
Not all of us are blessed with skills or talent. Some can’t dance, some can’t sing, some don’t like their size.
It’s all about a matter of acceptance. Your flaws are a huge part of you and you don’t have to feel bad about them. Being imperfect is normal, not the end of the world, and your flaws do not make you less as a person.
