Women yearning to be free
We all aspire to be free. Women, especially women of African descent and women of color, historically fight for our right to be who we are, rather than inheriting it. This is true, even though being free is commonly believed to be right, rather than a privilege.
The fight for freedom is different for each of us. However, as women, there is usually some kind of battle, and this understanding can unite us. It is Audre Lorde who said, “I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.”
“Same thing it is to you… It’s just a feeling… it’s just a feeling… that’s really something else. I’ll tell you what freedom is to me. NO FEAR. I mean, really, no fear. If I could have that… half of my life….”
