Climate change seems to be on a lot of our minds. Vogue recently highlighted a few “Climate Warriors” who are environmental activists voicing relevant perspectives about this important issue. When they speak, folks listen.
It should come as no surprise that women are concerned about the planet. After all, the Earth is female-we call her Mother Earth for a reason. And we are all her children.
Women like Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim from Chad act with the strength, beauty, and grace that you would expect from our finest global leaders. She injects a sense of urgency regarding the disappearance of Lake Chad, an ecological event that affects 30 million people:
“For us it’s not the issue of regulation. It’s the issue of survival.”
Hindou further advocates sisterhood as an important strategy in the climate change environmental movement:
“If women come together, they can have more impact than any agreement, than any negotiations,” she says. “Because we know that the future—it’s coming from us.”
