Meditation troubles don’t have to keep you from progressing with your spiritual development.  Some of us have great difficulty meditating.

Meditation is about going inward and releasing external attachments.

Helpful tips

Those who meditate regularly can experience heightened bliss, peace, and relaxation.

Sisterhood Agenda’s Meditation Handout can simplify this process for you so that you can reap the many benefits of meditation right away.

Meditation can help you release stress, connect to nature, visualize your success, and achieve balance.  It a sacred and personal way to honor yourself and the world around you.

Find your meditation style

There is no one way to meditate.  Different things work for different people.  If you try one way and it does not work for you, do not give up.  Try another style of meditation.

Most meditative techniques have this in common:  find a quiet place to settle yourself.

You can use pillows, candles, incense, or other objects to help you focus on your breath, clear your mind, and expand your universe. However, these objects are not necessary, they are merely facilitators that may help you.  You can meditate completely and fully without them.

Focus on your breathing

Breathe deeply and focus on your breath.  It’s all about the breath.

We breathe consciously and unconsciously.  What we take in, we push back out.

Your mind will likely wander.  This is fine, as long as you get back to the breath.  Concentration on the breath helps you focus on the present and keep your mind from thinking too much.  Too much intellectual thinking can block out your spiritual insights.

You may find yourself transported to a thought, a memory, an idea.  Don’t block these out, as they are important clues that your unconscious mind or spiritual self is telling you.

Be still.  Listen.  This can be the most challenging part for some of us.

Practice

Being able to relax and be still becomes easier with regular practice.

Your meditation is as unique as you are.  Some people meditate for five minutes, others for an hour. Some meditate sitting down, others like to lie down, and walking meditations and yoga meditations are not uncommon.

You will benefit from even the simplest, shortest meditation.

You can meditate on a train, at your desk, or in your garden.  I love to meditate by the sea.  It is fun to experiment and see what you enjoy most.  The possibilities are endless.

Meditation does not just help us.  It also helps those around us.  We are creating a more peaceful space and existence.

Good luck with your journey!
